Hello Folks, My name is Jake Engelen. I am the owner of Coastal Pastures Farms. My farming journey began in the least likely place: a hedge fund’s trading floor. While crunching numbers as a quant, I found solace in my backyard, turning sandy soil into a fruitful mini-oasis. But, as every budding green thumb learns, good soil needs manure, and suddenly, I was knee-deep in research on animal husbandry.

Fast forward, and here I am, fully immersed in a life of daily rotations, grazing plans, and wading through flooded fields (yes, I’ve tossed more chickens over fences in flooded pastures than I’d care to admit!). Our farm is rooted in soil regeneration, grass farming, and embracing nature’s rhythms—all with zero chemical input. The animals here never get too cozy in one spot—they’re constantly on the move, letting the pasture rest leaving behind rich soil, not waste.

My favorite part? Constantly learning from nature’s quirks. I’m a firm believer that the best farming practices come from following natural patterns and letting animals be, well, animals. The result is land management that’s holistic and in harmony with the natural world around us.
